Nick Alexopoulos set up his own One Agency real estate business in January 2017.

He admits to having been extremely nervous at the idea of becoming a real estate business owner, but after speaking with Paul Davies, the Founder & CEO of One Agency, he felt confident in making the leap.

“I had some friends who had already set up with One Agency, and their success and enthusiasm about the group made me take a good look at what was on offer,” says Nick. “Once I joined the transition was so easy that I kicked myself that I hadn’t done it earlier!”

Nick looked at a few of the traditional franchise models, but there was no comparison for him, as One Agency offered him a low cost business model, that allowed him to keep his entire commission and the flexibility to run his own race without intervention. He had complete freedom to build his business at his own pace.

“The main factor in my decision was that there was no requirement for me to have a shop front with One Agency. The others required me to do that and their fees would have been 9 – 10% of my turnover and I didn’t see the value in that. Plus I didn’t see any additional value in their business models over and above what One Agency was offering.”

Probably the most important thing was that I got to keep my entire profit and didn’t have to pay any of my commission to Head Office.

“Like many people starting up from scratch, there wasn’t a lot of cash, so the fact that I could do it from home was a major drawcard. Probably the most important thing was that I got to keep my entire profit and didn’t have to pay any of my commission to head office.”

10 months on and Nick is ahead enough to now set up an office and will be moving from his home office to business premises over the next few weeks. “I’ve definitely outgrown the study at home and it’s time to expand.”

Prior to becoming a business owner, Nick worked for McGrath as an agent for eight years, so he had done the hard yards in learning his trade and the timing was right to move into business ownership.

One Agency Alexopoulos Property covers the South West Growth Corridor heading out towards where Sydney’s newest airport will be. They cover the areas of Edmondson Park, Denham Court, Gledswood Hills, Varroville, Ingleburn, Macquarie Fields, Macquarie Links, Glenfield and Bardia.

“The set-up process was so easy and smooth as,” he says. “Head Office pretty much auto piloted it all the way. It really took a lot of the running around out of it for me and I was ready to trade almost instantaneously.”

“I think that it would’ve been extremely difficult trying to source, design and implement everything myself with an independent office. I didn’t have the time or the funding to waste time and money trying reinvent the wheel.”

“My advice to those thinking of joining is, just do it. Don’t think twice. Now I look back and have a laugh. It’s the best decision I ever made.”
