Lindi Kim Sing first heard of One Agency when attending a Lee Woodwards Real Estate Academy training session.
She noticed a number of One Agency Members, Tina Lee, Tony Quattroville, plus members from various Central Coast offices and on one of the days, she sat and chatted with them over lunch.
“I liked the clever brand name of One Agency and we got talking about it, but using a franchise wasn’t a consideration for me at the time, as didn’t want to be tied up with the restrictions that it might have involved.”
Although One Agency isn’t a traditional franchise, Lindi was concerned about the potential restrictive nature of joining a real estate brand. She considered going out on her own even going into partnership with another local agent.
In the end, it was a date that was the deciding factor for Lindi in setting up with One Agency and she joined on the 1st July 2014.
Prior to that Lindi had worked briefly with LJ Hooker in Balmain and for four years with Coopers Agency. Before setting up her business, One Agency Lindi Kim Sing in the inner-west of Sydney, Lindi spent three months working out where she would position herself in the market. She realised that the boutique agencies in her area are no longer boutique in their approach and so she found her point of difference and wrote a book called “House Proud”, which she uses alongside her pre-listing kit.

Lindi had been considering setting up her own business for about 18 months.
“What was difficult was taking the ‘gamble’, as understanding the real costs of running a real estate business can be daunting. The isolation also concerned me as I wouldn’t have the back up of my principal’s many wise years of experience.”
She admits that taking that leap into the unknown was a bit nerve wrecking but she has the support of a wonderful partner.
“I’m not afraid of doing anything new. I came to Australia at the age of 20 and knew nobody, I’ve worked on commission only for the last 25 years. I don’t like being beholden to an employer. I enjoy the challenges of being self-motivated and self-reliant. I take pride in the fact that my income and lifestyle is all because of my own hard work.”
Other One Agency members have been supportive of Lindi on the phone and we ask her if she’s felt that there’s enough freedom to build her business the way she wants to without many constraints from the brand? This had been a concern for her in the past.
“Yes – absolutely! I love it that Paul and Head Office are there whenever we need help and they can trust us to ensure we keep the integrity of the brand identity, but not get involved in telling us how to run our businesses.”
Lindi isn’t sure how different the experience would have been if she had started up without the national brand behind her, however she’s very sure that it’s been a cost effective investment in One Agency.
“I’m also getting great feedback from the community that they LOVE the ‘One Agency’ name. Many think it’s unique to me and when I explain that it’s a national license brand, that allows me the support and economies of scale, and that there are no disadvantages, they’re impressed!”
She has been overwhelmed with response from her book and e-newsletter marketing.
“I’ve been swamped with listings! I’m currently running 8 new listings on my own, it’s not a great situation as it means I’m not doing much forward planning! But I’m loving every moment.”
We ask her what advice she would offer to those thinking of joining the group?
“Just do it. It’s a great feeling to be in control of your own destiny and to have people respect you. The positive feedback from people who say ‘good on you’ is such a buzz.”
